East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers

walking to protect our local countryside

This was an 8 mile walk with a strong historical theme.

Led by Jill Wiseman, the group of 10 walkers followed in the footsteps of the vast armies of the Houses of York and of Lancaster as they fought what has been described as the bloodiest battle ever on English soil at Towton Moor in 1461.

Wikipedia and The Towton Battlefield Society have a wealth of information online, and a series of information boards on a permissive route around the area add to the experience.
