East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers

walking to protect our local countryside

On a beautiful midsummers day, four members assembled on the Moors above Levisham for a ten mile walk to Goathland, before catching the steam train back to Levisham station.

Led by Martin Hill, the route briefly was to Skelton Tower, Newtondale Halt Station (for the mid-morning break), Simon Howe Rigg (for a pleasant lunch stop) and down to Goathland Station.

On an otherwise perfect day, the only problems encountered were difficulties getting to the start point (road closures because of an accident, and heavy traffic due to a show at Pickering) and a delayed steam train caused by buckled rails and points (excessive heat!)
